Jean-Eugene Buland
1828-1890Jean-Eugene Buland
Eugène Buland was French, Naturalist painter. As Parisian, he attended classes of Alexandre Cabanel. Prior to acquiring the Grand prix of Rome, he spent five years studying in the Villa Médicis.
Back in Paris he hardly acquired successes. He abandoned historical subjects and started being more involved with the stages of everyday life.
He went couple of times to Bretagne where he painted a series of pictures representing anecdotes and episodes of the peasant’s and fisher’s daily life. With the help of photography, he quickly painted with thoroughness and achieved more of illusionism, sort of hyper-realism.
